Nice, clean hotel with friendly staff, cool lobby. Elevator is slow and rooms are tiny, but otherwise very nice and charming. Soft towels and good location. :)

3.5 ⭐ Proximity to Union Square are the friendly staff are the hotel’s primary attraction. Rooms are warm down, poorly isolated and a the hot water can take a while to reach the shower. Coffee and light pastries are served in the morning. Try Mason Diner next door for breakfast. A small bar and vending machine for soda. No gym.

My wife & I have stayed here twice now. The first time they upgraded our room at no cost for out anniversary. The rooms are good, but a little small. Very close to Union Square and lots of restaurants

I had an absolutely amazing stay at the King George Hotel! The staff were so wonderful and kind. Even though the photos looked good I was a little worried about the rooms and amenities because it’s an older building, but they have definitely put a lot of heart and investment into upgrading things and the room was very nice and clean! Thank you so much for the lovely stay. Oh and reminder to book direct to help keep the funds local!

We stayed at the King George Hotel in San Francisco from August 14 to 19, 2025, and were very satisfied with our stay! The location is excellent, right next to Union Square, perfect for walking around, with shops, cafés, and public transportation nearby. The room was clean, cozy, and had a very comfortable bed. The staff was friendly and always ready to help, making us feel truly welcomed. Despite being in the city center, the room was quiet and peaceful. Great value for money. We would definitely come back and highly recommend this hotel!

Overall, not bad. The hotel's location was NOT AT ALL an issue in relation to The Tenderloin. I even walked one block west, and besides a few homeless people, there was no evidence of crime and at no point did I feel unsafe. The rooms are smaller, but again this was made clear in the description. The building IS, as stated in the description and other reviews, old, this affected me in two ways. First, others have stated that there is no air conditioning and just a fan. As I visited during the first week of November, this was not an issue, however, I encountered the reverse of this problem as it was cold in the morning, but the heat is apparently centrally controlled by radiator and not on. Second, it took (no exaggeration) 15 minutes for hot water to reach the shower. The hotel often says, the building is old in response to other reviews. Well, yes, but it seems like that they are leaning on that as a "crutch" as an excuse for why certain things are the way that they are.

Wonderful stay at King George Hotel, San Francisco! We had a fantastic experience at the King George Hotel in San Francisco. The hotel is clean, comfortable, and very well located, making it easy to explore the city. What truly made our stay exceptional, though, was the staff — everyone was incredibly kind and welcoming. A special thank you to Abdullah, who was especially helpful and professional. He took the time to explain what attractions we should see around the city and gave us clear, practical guidance on how to use FastTrak, which saved us a lot of time and stress while traveling. His local knowledge and genuine willingness to help made a big difference in our trip. If you’re looking for a hotel with excellent service, friendly staff, and people who truly care about their guests, I highly recommend the King George Hotel. We would definitely stay here again!

This place doesn’t have all the bells and whistles, but it does do the one thing a hotel has to do, and that’s be clean. I’ve stayed at a few SF hotels in this price range and they have all been disgusting. King George is small, water pressure is weak, but it’s CLEAN. The location has sketchy things, but just use your average street smarts and you’ll be fine. It’s close to stores like Ross/Target which is convenient and it’s got a few BART stations very close by. I have zero legitimate complaints about this place. I’ll definitely keep coming here in the future!
